Product Review: The Truth About Six Pack Abs by Mike Geary

5 out 5 stars

Writing a book on how to get six pack abs puts one in a precarious situation because the demand for quick fixes is high while the actual existence of them is low.

The author has two choices: be honest and tell people what they don’t want to hear (there are no quick fixes) or flat-out lie and write a useless book that may sell well but will help nobody. Most authors seem to choose the latter route and to further propagate fitness myths instead of revealing them for what they truly are – useless. It is unfortunate how much misinformation is out there regarding fat loss (the only way to get a six pack) when the truth is actually quite simple. For this reason I judge the measure of a good abdominal book on a few things including the number of myths it helps to dispel through reader education, and the layout of a practical path to go about obtaining the reader’s desired goal. Mike Geary has done an amazing job at both of these! Some of the myths he busts include:

  • Traditional cardio is the best form of exercise for fat loss
  • Performing countless crunches is the way to go about obtaining a six pack
  • Saturated fat and coconut oil are evil
  • You should train your abs daily
  • There is a quick fix that will give you abs overnight

There are many more myths busted but these tend to resonate very strongly with me because I hear questions all the time from people who believe these myths to be facts. Mike Geary lays out an excellent plan to get a six pack, but is quick to point out that this will take time and discipline. He does not offer any band-aids but only the truth, which is a brave move since that is exactly what most readers do not want to hear. He also takes the time to point out that fitness is about improving one’s quality of life and not just aesthetics. I could not agree more with this sentiment. Most importantly Mike delivers on his “how to” promise, detailing a truly effective exercise and nutritional program to help the reader achieve the results they desire. The sample diets, strength training, and cardiovascular exercise programs he lays out are all extremely well designed and practical for everyone from the beginner to the advanced trainee. Geary’s book is the ultimate blueprint for fat loss and, consequently, for attaining that coveted six pack everyone dreams about! If you are interested in dropping some extra pounds and want everything spelled out for you from A-Z, I definitely recommend The Truth About Six Pack Abs!
